These gorgeous Royal Blue flying seeds known as “Angel Wings”, that flutter and spin as they float through the air, naturally reseeding themselves to produce the Oroxylum Indicum or “Shyonaka” plant native to Asia and the foothills of the Himalayas. “Angel Wings” are also used in potpourri in both their natural color or dyed in an array of colors. Also great in Soap making and Candle making crafts.
In Thailand, Nepal and Laos these seeds are also used in marriage rituals. In the Himalayas people make mobiles and garlands with these seeds and hang them from the roof of their houses for protective reasons.
Oroxylum indicum, in the family Bignoniaceae, known as midnight horror, broken bones, or tree of Damocles. The tree is a night-bloomer and flowers are adapted to natural pollination by bats. It produces enormous seed pods up to 1.5 metres long that hang down from branches, resembling dangling sickles or swords, giving the name ‘tree of Damocles’. Seeds are round with papery wings.
